Two health staff suspended from EPI following vaccination death at Hizla

Health administration on Saturday closed one staff and an employee who administered measles vaccines under the expanded programme of immunisation at Kalikapur Community Health Clinic at Hizla in Barisal on Wednesday last causing death of three babies within some hours.

On other hand a high powered team of health administration, directorate, World Health Organisation and UNICEF visited the area on Saturday.

The team instituted with Dr. Md. Tajul Bari, deputy programme manager of child health programme under health directorate and team leader, Dr. Anil Chandra Datta, Barisal district civil surgeon, Dr. Morshed Ahmed, divisional coordinator, Dr. Mizanur Rahman, district immunization medical officer of WHO, A H Tawfiq Ahmed, Barisal representative of UNICEF, as members.

The team leader and members after returning from Hizla talked with the journalists at Barisal Speed Boat Ghat and Civil Surgeon office on Saturday noon.

They said including Taslima and Jawaed, they also recorded statements of Dr. Shubhangkar Baroi, upazila health officer, AKM Majibur Rahman, assistant health inspector, Md. Hanif Mia, health inspector, Mizanur Rahman, technician of upazila EPI works and inspected EPI vaccine store and spot of the incident.
